WhatsApp is expanding its new Strict Account Security feature to iOS users, following its earlier rollout on the Android beta (version 2.25.36.15). The enhanced security mode, now available for some testers on WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.36.10.70 via TestFlight, introduces a one-tap toggle designed to activate the platform’s strongest privacy protections instantly.
The goal is simple: to give users, especially those at higher risk of targeted attacks, a more powerful yet effortless way to protect their accounts.

What Strict Account Security Mode Does
Instead of tweaking individual settings across multiple menus, users can now enable WhatsApp’s most advanced privacy and security measures with a single switch. Once turned on, the app automatically enforces a wide range of protections, including:
Stronger Privacy Controls
- Blocks media and file attachments sent by unknown contacts
- Disables link previews to prevent sensitive device information from leaking
- Restricts profile photo, About, and Last Seen visibility to contacts only
- Silences calls from phone numbers not saved in the address book
Stricter Interaction Limits
- Only saved contacts can add you to group chats
- Real-time alerts when a contact’s security code changes
- Calls are routed through WhatsApp servers to hide your IP address
Enhanced Account Protection
- Two-step verification becomes mandatory
- Calls are relayed through WhatsApp servers to reduce tracking risks
- Certain toggles are locked while strict mode is active to keep all protections synced
These changes create a controlled, high-security environment that prevents unknown contacts from reaching the user or gathering personal information.
Aimed at Users Who Need Extra Protection
WhatsApp emphasizes that most people won’t need this level of restriction, as the app’s default privacy settings already offer solid protection for everyday messaging. However, the strict mode is especially helpful for:
- Users at risk of digital harassment
- Journalists and activists
- Public figures
- People whose accounts may be targeted by attackers
While all individual protections can be enabled manually, strict mode saves time by activating everything at once. The only unique protection not available manually is the blocking of all media from unknown contacts.
How to Check If the Feature Is Available
Beta testers on iOS can verify availability by:
- Opening WhatsApp
- Going to Settings
- Selecting Privacy
- Opening the Advanced section
If Strict Account Settings appears, the feature is live for your account. Users can also view all locked protections by selecting View locked settings inside this menu.
The mode can only be turned on or off from the primary device linked to the WhatsApp account, ensuring full user control.
Still in Testing, Wider Rollout Expected
Since the feature is still in beta, WhatsApp is gathering feedback and fine-tuning its performance before expanding access to more users in the coming weeks. The gradual rollout helps ensure stability and reliability across all supported devices.
