Xiaomi India Bets on ‘Value for Experience’ in 2026, Teases Big Redmi Note and AI Push

Xiaomi India’s shift from being a value-for-money brand to a value-for-experience player began in 2025, but the company says its biggest moves are still ahead. As the Indian smartphone market matures and consumer expectations evolve, Xiaomi is recalibrating its strategy across smartphones, AI, and IoT, with 2026 shaping up to be a pivotal year.

Xiaomi India Bets on ‘Value for Experience’ in 2026

Xiaomi’s Market Position Remains Strong

Despite a challenging and slowing smartphone market, Xiaomi remains well placed. According to IDC’s latest report, Xiaomi ranks third in India’s smartphone market, holding over 13 percent market share, behind Vivo and Oppo. The brand is also the third-largest tablet player in India, underlining its growing presence beyond smartphones.

Why Xiaomi Is Moving Beyond Value-for-Money

Explaining the strategy shift, Mathur said 2025 was a year of recalibration driven by changing consumer behavior rather than choice.

“Xiaomi has traditionally been known for value for money, but that is now shifting to value for experience,” he said.

Rising average selling prices (ASP) and a market moving from volume-driven growth to value-driven growth have forced brands to rethink their positioning. Xiaomi’s goal now is to deliver premium experiences across price segments, while staying true to its “innovation for all” philosophy.

Clearer Sub-Brand Strategy in 2026

Another major change underway is sharper differentiation between Xiaomi’s three sub-brands:

  • Xiaomi series
  • Redmi series
  • Poco series

“This distinction started in 2025, and you’ll see much more of it as we move into 2026,” Mathur confirmed. Each sub-brand will now have a clearer audience, pricing strategy, and experience focus.

What’s Coming Next for the Redmi Note Series

The Redmi Note series, Xiaomi’s biggest volume driver in India, is set for a major refresh in early 2026 — likely with the Redmi Note 15 lineup.

Mathur revealed one of the biggest upgrades yet:
Four years of Android OS updates and six years of security patches for the upcoming Redmi Note phones.

“This gives consumers reassurance that the phone will truly last,” he said, adding that long-standing pain points from previous Note models have been addressed.

Other key focus areas for the next Redmi Note series include:

  • Improved camera performance
  • Better battery life
  • Higher screen brightness
  • Stronger after-sales support

Omni-Channel Strategy Going Forward

Xiaomi has also moved to a full omni-channel approach, meaning the same Redmi Note phones will be available at the same price across online and offline channels.

“Same product, same price, same experience — consumers choose the channel,” Mathur explained.

The company is also investing in premium in-store experiences, especially in large-format retail outlets where customers can see and feel the products before buying.

AI Will Define Xiaomi’s 2026 Story

AI is expected to play a central role in Xiaomi’s 2026 roadmap, especially in the mid-range segment.

“Most AI features today revolve around the camera and photos, but it’s moving beyond that,” Mathur said.

Xiaomi plans to lead AI adoption in the mid-range category, using learnings from its premium devices and bringing those experiences to Redmi Note users — balancing smart features with real-world usefulness.

Renewed Focus on IoT and Ecosystem Products

While smartphones remain Xiaomi’s core business, the company plans to double down on non-phone categories in 2026, including:

  • Smart TVs
  • Tablets
  • Wearables
  • IoT devices

“One of the challenges is that many people still don’t know Xiaomi makes IoT products,” Mathur admitted. Building awareness around Xiaomi as a complete ecosystem brand will be a key priority next year.

However, regulatory hurdles such as BIS Quality Control Order (QCO) requirements have slowed some product launches, something Xiaomi hopes to navigate more smoothly in 2026.

Looking Ahead

With 2026 just weeks away, Xiaomi is gearing up for a crucial phase. A refreshed Redmi Note series, deeper AI integration, clearer sub-brand positioning, and a stronger ecosystem push suggest the company is aiming to redefine how Indian consumers perceive the brand — not just as affordable, but as experience-driven.

The next Redmi Note launch is expected early next year, and it could be one of Xiaomi’s most important launches in recent times.
